Dr Emmanuel Ako is a highly-trained consultant cardiologist based in London. He is an expert in all areas of cardiology and internal medicine with particular expertise in treating chest pains, acute and chronic coronary syndrome, valvular heart disease, hypertension, arrhythmia and cardiac complications in haemoglobinopathies, such as thalassaemia and sickle cell disease.

Dr Ako graduated with a degree in medicine from University College London in 2005 and was awarded several awards from the Vandervell Foundation and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). He completed an intercalated BSc in physiology and then went on to complete postgraduate medical training at St Georges, the London Chest and the Heart Hospital in London. After obtaining his MRCP, he achieved a dual accreditation in general internal medicine and cardiology in North East Thames and subsequently trained in interventional cardiology at the Heart Hospital and Barts Heart Centre.

Dr Ako is actively involved in clinical education and research. He has won several awards for his commitment and dedication including the American College of Cardiology Young Investigator Award in Chicago for research into haemoglobinopathy and the RSM Presidents Medal in London. Furthermore, Dr Ako has published multiple articles, presented at many conferences both in the UK and abroad and is a regular speaker in public engagement workshops internationally.

He is currently working as the principal investigator on several cardiology studies and has high-level expertise in simulation-based training in cardiology. He has been involved in developing a hugely successful simulation-based training programme with Imperial College London, which has recently been introduced across the UK aimed at cardiologists and anaesthetists.

Dr Wong completed his medical education at the University of Cambridge, earning his MB BChir in 2005, followed by a PhD from King's College London. His postgraduate training took place in London and Japan, where he focused on novel methods of measuring cardiac function using MRI in patients with single ventricle physiology. He is an honorary senior lecturer at King's College London since July 2023.

As a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR), Dr Wong is recognised nationally and internationally for his contributions to cardiac MRI. His research interests lie in advancing cardiac imaging techniques to better understand complex heart conditions, particularly in young patients. Recently, he has published significant work on cardiac outcomes and medium-term outcomes in patients with PIMS-TS, contributing to the development of best practices for this condition.

His leading knowledge and skill have led to him being appointed as the Regional Director for Royal College of Surgeon of England (RCSE) and he also chairs the professional affairs board in the West Midlands. He was previously the director of the department of general surgery and is director of medical education for the St George's School of Medicine, Grenada. In 1996, Mr Goede graduated from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. After moving to the UK, he worked as a basic surgical trainee for four years and then went on to graduate with an MS from the University of London. In 2004, he attained a Higher Surgical Training number on the Oxford Training Scheme where he completed his specialist training in 2010. During this time he gained clinical exposure to complex colorectal surgery and laparoscopic surgery and generated a specialist interest in these areas and pelvic floor surgery as well. He finished his training with an Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Surgery Fellowship.

Mr Goede is within the top 5 surgeons in the UK by volume for bowel cancer resections with excellent outcomes. Additionally, he is the Enhanced Recovery Programme Lead, the Nutrition Lead for Surgery, Combined abdominal wall reconstructive surgeon with plastic surgeons, and the lead general surgeon for the National Spìnal Injuries Unit, giving Mr Goede a wide and varied, yet highly specialist general and colorectal surgery practice.

He has made a number of important contributions to his field of expertise. He is internationally recognised with nearly 100 peer reviewed publications. He was the first to show that Helicobacter pylori infection of the stomach is mainly caught in childhood, and, more recently, was the first to show that obesity can be a cause of Crohn's disease. He possesses an extensive amount of knowledge and experience with regards to performing upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy, oesophageal manometary, as well as duodenal and biliary stenting. 

To-date, Dr Mendall has written extensively on the role of diet in Crohn's, about IBS, the treatment of dyspepsia and reflux and Helicobacter pylori infection. He is currently the lead for gastroenterology at Croydon University Hospital, as well as a senior lecturer at St George's Medical School. Dr Mendall, who is also a member of various medical organisations, was named one of the top UK consultants in the Tatler Guide 2013.
